Three new salads for hot weather:
Arugula w/ parmesan crisps and toasted pumpkin seeds with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Crispy, salty, sharp.
Grilled veggie pasta salad with onions, asparagus, peppers, squash, olives, parmesan, olive oil and vinegar. Classic.
Quinoa and black bean salad. Hippie Food and darn it’s good.
Father’s Day Biscuits and Sausage Gravy
1 lb. Jimmy's Breakfast Sausage
3 tbsp. flour
Salt and pepper
2 to 3 c. milk
Heat pan over medium-high heat. Crumble sausage and add to pan, stirring. Fry until there is no pink meat. Add flour 1 tablespoon at a time. Stir quickly. Stir until a paste forms. Then add milk, 1 cup at a time. Mixture should be thick. Pan should be on high. Add salt and pepper, lots of pepper.
Biscuits: use Bob's Red Mill buttermilk biscuit mix, or the Immaculate Baking buttermilk biscuits in the dairy case.
Steak of the week: Papa’s Porterhouse. A really big juicy steak. This Niman Ranch beauty, as seen in Cooking Light, feeds a few hungry papas. $17.99/lb.
Hurry in for some humuhumunukunukuapua'a, aka, unu, or parrot fish. A meaty white fish that is best baked or fried. Try rubbing with oil, a little curry powder, s & p, wrap it in tinfoil and bake. Serve with coconut rice.
