Fall Foods are back!

"The green elm with the one great bough of gold
Lets leaves into the grass slip, one by one, --"
Edward Thomas
Our first frost came last week, and stopped our tomatoes in their tracks. Saturday night the full harvest moon shone down, autumn is truly here.
New New New!
Apple Walnut Stuffed Acorn Squash. Mmmm, tastes like fall. Just heat and eat.
Meat Loaf. A Marczyk favorite returns with the cool weather. Great hot, maybe even better in a sandwich the next day.
Savory Stuffed Pork Roulade. An easy, pretty dinner for two. Topped with a tart cherry sauce. Made with Niman Ranch pork.
Ratatouille. It’s a lot of work, let us do it for you! Just add pasta for a main course, or serve with Merguez lamb sausage and couscous for a fancy dinner.
Antica Italian Fresh Pastas. Supple and flavorful. Choose from tortelloni, tagliatelle, or paglia e fieno.
Acquerello Carnaroli Rice. The finest risotto rice in the world. The rice is aged for 1 to 3 years, then polished to create a rice that when cooked will become bigger, firmer, and very tasty!
Seasonal twice baked potato is now green chile with cheddar. Baked to perfection, twice.
Cuban Pork. Exotic best seller returns! Cuban marinated Niman Ranch pork is braised then layered with Achiote black beans and Marsala and brown sugar buttered roasted bananas. Sounds crazy, tastes great.
Romseco sauce. One taste of this and you’re in Spain. A classic sauce from Catalonia, Spain, romesco is a finely ground mixture of tomatoes, red bell peppers, onions, garlic, almonds and olive oil. Served with grilled fish or chicken.
Golumpki. Authentic Polish comfort food. Meat stuffed cabbage with tomato sauce.
Two big freezers! Now all the delicious and special meaty treats that you love for the fall will be on display: Marrow bones, duck and duck breast, buffalo, lamb and veal shanks, pork belly, and more!
Eggs in crates. The great egg caper continues. This is a funny story. Funny ha ha? No. As most of you know, we have been sourcing all natural, pasture raised eggs from an egg producer in Nunn. Ownership recently changed hands, and in the process the egg carton order was missed. As Pete searches America for affordable cartons, we see an opportunity to ask our customers to bring in their old cartons and buy eggs by the each. The per egg price is less; it’s a great green way to recycle cartons too! We’re sorry we upset some customers last week, because really, who walks around with egg cartons? We have eggs in cartons, and eggs by the each now. Thanks for your patience.
What’s fresh now:
Apples galore for pies, sauces, or just good eating! It’s apple season in Colorado, and here is what Ela Farms in Hotchkiss has brought us so far. As the season progresses, the apples will change, so enjoy your favorites now!
Gala apples are aromatic, sweet and crisp. Good in salads, and for eating.
Jonathan apples have a tart-to-sweet flavor with a tender texture. An all purpose apple.
Golden Supreme: Some yellow apples are a bore, not this one! Sweet and very crunchy, it’s Ela’s answer to Honey Crisp.
Deal of the week:
Roasted jalapeno and cheddar stuffed chicken breast wrapped in bacon. Another delicious dish from Doc. $8.99/lb.
Big Wine Deal:
Pedroncelli Syrah. Every reason in the world to buy a case of this!
Pedroncelli Syrah is rich and floral, with notes of pepper and toasted wood. We have a killer deal of $99/case, that’s half price its usual cost. Don’t delay! (This is as low as it can go so no further discount will be taken on this for Saturday.)
Cheese love, cheese tastings:
Neal’s Yard Dairy Lincolnshire Poacher English Cheddar is here and on special! $10.99/lb, usually $25.99/lb.
It’s officially fall when this big boy shows up. This huge wheel arrives wrapped in muslin, smelling of earth and fall. “Smooth textures that combine aspects of a traditional cheddar with something more like a Swiss mountain cheese. Sweet, long, nutty flavours round it out.” Just amazing with a dark beer and apples.
