Marczyk's Pig Roast, and Fall Foods
09/12/2008
"I can hear
September's
leaf
following
me
down
the asphalt
surface
of Locust Street
cart wheeling
on pins
when suddenly
it stops --
just
to see
if I'll turn
to look."
The harvest moon is full on Monday, and the Autumnal Equinox arrives the week after. Monday’s weather made us realize fall is here, so we braised a pork shoulder and made a stew out of all the fresh veggies from the store. Watched the Broncos by the fire... outstanding.
What’s Fresh Now?
Fresh picked corn from Boulder’s Munson Farm.
Pesticide free, sweet and delicious.
Frequent shopper special: 4 ears for $1.99.
Organic Colorado fingerling, russet, red, and Yukon potatoes.
Ela Family Farms are still bringing us their stupendous peaches, and Gala apples now too. All organic of course.
Beautiful Swiss chard. Throw this into a chicken broth based soup with Italian sausage and white beans, some onions and carrots...easy.
Jimmy the Butcher is changing out the meat department to bring you new dinner choices for fall. Braising cuts like chuck and rib roasts are back; market-made meatloaf, stew meat too. Customer favorite chicken, bacon, and spinach stuffed portabella, kids love these!
In the freezer we have everything you need for a fall feast: pork bellies, leaf lard for baking, duck, pheasant, rabbit, and lamb shanks.
The beef from Colorado’s Best Beef Company continues to win fans here at the market. Charolais cattle are world renown for superior taste, and the Ferris and Elliot families raise them with care; no antibiotics, no growth hormones. Tender, well marbled, rich and really delicious. We’ll be getting an irregular order from them on a regular basis. Rib eyes and New York steaks are arriving today; it changes with the week. If you have a special event coming up and need Colorado beef call 303 894-9499, talk to Jimmy.
It’s starting to be the end of the season for the all natural pasture raised chickens from Colorado farmer Penny Henker. They have been a warm weather bonus, and Marczyk’s is happy to be able to provide an authentic local chicken for our customers. If you have not tried one yet, pick yours up September 12 or 26. They’re sold whole, but cut to order at the customer’s request. $4.49/lb and they average around 3.5 lbs.
In addition to tearing the store apart by moving the checkout stand around (Paul and Doc enjoyed telling people we were putting in a Starbuck’s), we also re-did the cheese signs to make them a little more fun. You’ll find the world’s best cheeses here at Marczyk’s, and everyday delights. Try a grilled cheese with Niman ham, Gruyere and mustard, or melt raclette over fingerling potatoes.
They’re back.
Our cold weather comfort food is back on the shelves. Shepherd’s Pie, made with braised all natural lamb, sautéed carrots, onions, and celery, topped with mashed potatoes and cheese.
Clam Chowder: “Although we are Rockies fans, we served Nan’s Clam Chowder for Saturday night’s game. We all voted it THE BEST clam chowder in the US. For that reason alone, we gladly give the World Series to the Sox!” Enough said.
Pork green Chile Stew: Free range, hormone and antibiotic free pork braised with green chiles, onions, and tomatillos. It’s a meal with cheese quesadillas.
On Special: Transmontanous Caviar. This is the real deal; bright bursts of pure ocean flavor explode on your tongue. And at an unbelievable price: $79.99 for 50g, $159.00 for 125g. Sauté our dry pack scallops in butter and wine, finish with cream, and serve over pasta with lemon zest and caviar. Come on, you must have something to celebrate!
