Get ready for Thanksgiving!
11/06/2008
“You buy one turkey a year. Make it the best.”
The phone is starting to ring with customers ordering their Thanksgiving birds. This year it’s Willie Bird! Every year the guys shop around for the best tasting and best value bird for you. Willie Birds are all natural and truly free-range. (Go to http://www.williebird.com/ to see them out under the California oaks.) These broad-breasted whites are the conventional breed you all know, but raised naturally without the use of any antibiotics or growth hormones. A high quality 100% vegetarian diet contributes to the flavor and tenderness of these birds. Same bird you can order from the Williams Sonoma catalog, Paul says it’s the best tasting bird in town. Available from 8-24 pounds.
Heritage birds, with their richly flavored meat, have gotten wildly popular with our customers. These unique turkeys come from two rare breeds indigenous to the Americas known as Blue Slate and American Bronzes. A small number of Colorado farmers are dedicated to literally hand-raising these turkeys. Absolutely no antibiotics or growth hormones are used in production. Available from 8-15 pounds. Remember, these birds are on the small side.

When we opened the market 6 years ago, we were disappointed in the lack of available Colorado items. Alas, elk jerky was not our passion. Now our shelves are packed with Colorado Proud products, here’s just a few:
- Morning Fresh Dairy milk, cream, and coming soon, the-world’s-richest eggnog.
- Udi’s granola, the Hawaiian is our favorite.
- MouCo cheeses and Haystack cheeses, the Haystack Smoked Chevre log is so perfect in the fall sprinkled on sweet roasted squash.
- Pappardelle’s Ravioli, not to be squash-centric, but their squash ravioli, sautéed with brown butter and pine nuts, is easy and delicious.
- Vail Mountain Roaster coffees, roasted in Minturn, CO by our friends the Coffee Kings.
- Georgetown Valley Candy Company makes an outrageous English Toffee. Step away from the leftover Halloween candy and try a bite of this chocolaty, buttery, sweet and salty delight. Or try their Peanut Caramel Corn, a fall treat for sure.
Of course there’s more Colorado fun here at Marczyk’s: chickens from Nunn, fresh baked breads delivered daily, holiday pies made in Boulder, and more!
