Wines of the Month
Santa Luz Sauv Blanc, Chile
The softer side of Sauvignon Blanc.
Feeling a little burned by high acid New Zealand and Argentina Sauvignon Blancs? Then you’ll love Santa Luz. On the palate this Sauv Blanc is delicate and easy with notes of creamy lemon bar, honeydew melon, and guava jam. It’s unassuming and almost soothing in its softness. A great wine for kicking back on the patio. With food? Try simply dressed rainbow trout (think EVOO and thyme), grilled vegetables, lemony quinoa salad…generally lighter fare.

Santa Luz Carmenere, Chile
The bold and the bountiful.
If you’re searching for something that packs flavor but not punch, Santa Luz Carmenere has it in spades. Santa Luz is bold but with polished, soft, fruity edges. Lots of blackberry and black cherry fruit here! We’ll drink this wine with all kinds of pork dishes, marinated flank steak or better yet, the Steak of the Month: Bison Culotte Steak. “Sometimes called a baseball steak or a top-sirloin cap, which as picanha is the most-prized cut of beef in Brazil.”

Résso Garnacha Blanca, Spain
A white to transport you to the Mediterranean coast.
To sip this wine is to imagine sunshine pouring through the clouds on walk through a summer orchard. You’re surrounded by blooming white flowers, juicy tree-ripe fruit, and there’s a taste of stony minerality. “Today wasn’t that bad,” you’ll think. Relax with soft, mild cheeses, nuts and sliced pears, or some crisp veggie spears and yogurt dip. Delish with shellfish, light pasta or simple chicken dishes - and remember the bright, fruity flavors are sippable rain or shine!

Résso Garnacha, Spain
Add thrills to your Tuesday night with this feisty red.
Add a little zest to the midweek, or anytime, and try this flashy little wine. Approachable and user-friendly, deep ruby color invites you for a swirl, as heady aromatics of earthy red berries draw you into a silky array of candied strawberry, black raspberry licorice and peppery cocoa. Great with all your tacos, empanadas, black bean salsa, slow cooked pork, (Cinco de Mayo?) meatballs and salty cheeses.

La Fiera Soave, Italy
Pronounced “so-ah-vay” --now say it with some flair!
Mom’s a Pinot Grigio fan? Try this instead. La Fiera is named for the region near Verona that produces this dry, fruity blend of Garganega, Trebbiano and Chardonnay. Freshness of crunchy green pear and apple, white flowers, mineral and citrus inflections on the palate. It’s the perfect all-purpose May white! Start a meal with lemony hummus and roasted spring veggies and as a refreshing aperitif. Drink it through the meal with fresh red snapper, Colorado raised chickens, or risotto primavera.
$8.99 case price $7.64
La Fiera Primitivo, Italy
Hello all you new-world fans out there!
This wine was an instant Yes for all our staff. If you liked Cantina Cittadini Nero d’Avola and Primaterra Sangiovese, meet our new satiny smooth, plump, easy-drinking Italian! Aren’t familiar with the name? You know this varietal by its alias: Zinfandel. A softer version than the power-house California style, it’s uncomplicated by oak, with intense fragrance, jammy dark fruit, brilliant color and soft, round tannin. Springtime turkey burgers, pastas, or roasted eggplant are it’s friend.
$8.99 case price $7.64
Exem Bordeaux, France
Exem, French for exemplary Bordeaux!
If you’ve ever felt intimidated by Bordeaux, looking at a label with a Chateau on it and thought, “I just have no idea what this is”, this is the Bordeaux to get educated with. It is made in a very approachable, affable style with abundant fruit and none of the vegetal tones that can be austere for some. Come and taste the beauty that is Bordeaux! Bring on a picnic in Cheesman Park with cheeses, cured meats, olives, fruit…ask our deli team for some suggestions!
$12.99 case price $11.04
Chateau La Freynadelle White Bordeaux
A springy, vivacious little white blend.
Intensely aromatic and flavorful with notes of Meyer lemon, gooseberry, and melon. There’s a nice mineral note here too that pops on the finish. This wine has a purity and preciseness we love, and the aromatics just leap from the glass. Chateau La Freynadelle feels delightfully nimble on the palate with all this vibrant acid and snappy citrus. It would be delicious alongside seared scallops, fresh spring salads, roasted chicken, or linguine with clams and fennel.
$12.99; case price $11.04
